Should I Upgrade My Flight to Singapore?

In a few weeks, I am taking off on the long journey to Singapore. I booked the roundtrip ticket from Los Angeles for $638. Since I am based just north Dallas, it required purchasing a roundtrip ticket between DFW and LA. That ticket cost me $220.  $858 roundtrip between DFW and SIN is not a bad deal.

I am am currently seated in Economy Plus in an aisle, bulkhead seat. This is the best Economy seat, in my opinion.

The flight from LA to Singapore is 18 hours while the return leg comes in at 15 hours.  I am thinking about upgrading the LA to Singapore outbound leg since it is almost 20 hours in the airplane. I have two options for upgrade. 1) pay $1780 or…

2) 30,000 miles + $600.  My American Express travel credit would reduce it by $200.

United BusinessFirst has fully lie flat seats.  While it is not the best business class product on the market, it sure as hell beats sitting in Economy with limited recline.

I still have some time to make the final decision.  Either way, this mileage run will move me up to United Premier Platinum.
