I had originally planned to eat at Salt Lick on Friday night, but I could not make reservations and the wait was over an hour. Apparently, you have to make reservations 24 hours in advance. I ultimately settled on Rudy’s Country Store and BBQ. Rudy’s has about 35 stores, this one is number 33.
This store is located at Interstate 35 and Old Settlers Road.
When you walk in, the convenience store is to the left, while the restaurant is to the right.
There is a hand wash area at the entrance.
At Rudy’s, there are no waitresses to take your order. A menu was near the beer trough…
…another one was hanging over the food prep area.
There was a beer and soda trough positioned prior to the ordering counter.
There was sauces for sale.
Before I ordered, I asked a lot of questions because this was only my second time eating at Rudy’s. When the cashier heard that, he yelled ‘we have a rookie’! All of the other workers stated (in unison), ‘howdy rookie’! Embarrassing to say the least, LOL.
I ordered brisket, jalapeño sausage, pork ribs and cream corn.
The food was delicious. There was a wood heater that was a nice touch in the dining area.
Final Word
Rudy’s was a decent substitution for Salt Lick. The highlight of the visit was the amazing staff and the cream corn. I will definitely eat there again.
