I had a decision to make about which hotels to visit during my time in Costa Rica. In the end, I chose the Marriott Hotel Costa Rica and the Courtyard Marriott in Alajuela. Neither property disappointed, here is the first of the hotels.
Booking
I booked a standard King Room for approximately $150/night. By using my Marriott Rewards credit card, I was able to earn 4,173 points (2,618 base, 655 elite bonus, and 900 credit card points).
Arrival
We negotiated with one of the hagglers at the airport for a ride to the hotel. We paid $10 for the short trip. As I mentioned earlier, there was a shuttle, but it runs every 30 minutes and you are not guaranteed a seat. As we pulled into the property, I could not help but notice how beautiful it was. It was a hacienda that was transformed into a Marriott hotel.

Check-in
The front desk was just inside the sliding doors. We were greeted warmly by Farid and Natalia.

The lobby had a nice breeze because of its open air design. Farid thanked me for being a Marriott Gold member and welcomed me back to Marriott. During check in, I was informed that I was upgraded to a Double Queen mountainview room. The check in took less than five minutes to process. Farid provided me with a business card for the lounge which listed hours of operation, food/drink offerings, and dry cleaning hours.

After checking in, I asked Farid for info about the property. He began to explain all of the amenities, but stopped himself because he wanted to give us a tour of the ENTIRE property. That was greatly appreciated.
Room
The room was located on the sixth floor. Upon entering the room, I could not help but notice the spectacular view of the mountains in the distance and the driving range below.

The bathroom was to the right. It was not the biggest bathroom, but it had a very modern feel. The barn door really stood out to me.

After entering the main part of the room, the tv and desk were to the left. On the desk was a welcome amenity of a cheese plate and red wine. I was really appreciative of that gesture.

The two queen beds were to the right. I was able to enjoy a comfortable night’s sleep after a long day of travel.

The view…the view…the view. I could have stayed on the balcony all day to enjoy the view. It was probably the best, non ocean view room that I have ever had.

Dining
There were many food options at the property as well. On the lower level was Bar10, a restaurant/bar with your typical bar food and some pasta dishes. It offered great views of the pool. The staff there were really friendly.

There was a coffee shop located next to the gift shop on the street level. It was busy during the time that we visited.

There was a bar on the lobby level (opposite the front desk) as well. It was not open when we visited, but the bartender offered me a shot of local whiskey which I could not pass up.
Room service was available 24 hours, but I did not order anything.
Fitness
There was not a shortage of activities on the property to help guests remain active during their stay. The aforementioned driving range at the rear of the property could be enjoyed for a small fee.
The fitness center and spa were located in a separate building, away from the main property. There were tennis courts just outside of the fitness center.

The swimming pool was located on the lower level of the hotel. It was a gorgeous two level pool, with a jacuzzi.

Final Word
This property, along with the exceptional service from Farid, left me speechless. I honestly did not want to leave the property when it was time to check out the next day. If you are planning to visit San Jose, Costa Rica, this is the property for you to visit. Thanks to Farid, Natalia, and the Bar10 staff for taking care of us and showing us what Pura Vida is all about.
