How to Travel Blog and be Active Duty Military? This is a question that I have been getting since I started the blog almost a year ago. In the past few months, the questions have increased. I figured that it was time to write a post to answer all of the questions. Here it goes:

How do you have time to work on both full time?

There is not simple answer to this question. I make this blog one of the top priorities in my life. If that means waking up early or going to bed late to edit pictures, write posts, or update social media, I will do it. I am a strong believer that you should invest in yourself before you invest in anyone else. We all get the same 24 hours in a day, it is up to you to decide what you want to do with yours.

How many people do you employ?

Zero. My good friend James helped me to get the blog started (I am forever indebted to him). Some others have done some work with me throughout the year, but I do not have a team working with me…yet.

As active duty military you get 30 days of annual leave per year, how do you go on so many trips?

All of my trips are short trips. I plan local trips (Dallas, Round Rock, or San Antonio) on the weekends. I can easily travel to these places without having to take off of work. When it comes to longer trips (Singapore, Malaysia, Denver, or Nashville), I take (at most) five days off of work to complete the trip. Sometimes it can be tiring, but I enjoy traveling so that makes up for it.

Who pays for your trips?

I pay for all of my trips using cash, miles received from credit card sign up bonuses (American Express Platinum, Marriott Rewards, or the Chase Sapphire Preferred card) or a combination of both. The active duty military benefits that American Express offers are some of the best in the industry. Being able to fly on Singapore Airlines A380 in Suites Class has been a highlight of my travels. It was made possible through the use of American Express Membership Rewards points.

What is your end game for the blog?

As I have said before, I am happy to share my travel with anyone who is willing to read this blog or watch videos on the YouTube channel. I plan to continue to travel for as long as I can.  I am grateful for every experience that I have ever had while traveling.

Final Word

In the end, if you want something bad enough, you will work for it.  I do not plan on getting rich (monetarily) from the blog, but I will be enriched through travel experiences.  If at a point I do not enjoy it anymore, then I would consider putting an end to the blog. Until then, continue to follow me, I hope to continue to provide useful content.
