Today, I will round out the military benefits offered by low cost carriers by looking at those given by Allegiant Airlines. Allegiant is the ninth largest airline in the United States. Its primary mission is to serve leisure travelers. This is particularly interesting because I have only seen an Allegiant aircraft at Portsmouth International Airport in New Hampshire. The airline operated a seasonal service to Florida from the frigid northeastern state. As a part of its business model, Allegiant does not offer amenities, onboard entertainment, or a frequent flier program. The airline does offer a robust list of benefits for military travelers.
As a refresher, below is a list of airlines covered in other posts:
United Airlines
American Airlines
Delta Airlines
Spirit Airlines
Southwest Airlines
Frontier Airlines
Allegiant Airlines offers the following military benefits through Allegiant Honors:
Free services offered for U.S. active duty or reserve duty and National Guard:
Complimentary Baggage. The airline offers up to three free checked bags. Each bag must weigh under 100 lbs. No charge for oversized checked baggage. One free carry-on bag within size limits.
Complimentary Boarding Pass Printing. The airline will print boarding passes at the airport, free of charge.
Complimentary Seating. Free seat assignments, pending availability.
Complimentary Pet. One pet in cabin free.
Priority Boarding. Active military may board with priority boarding at no charge.
No Change or Cancellation Fees. Active military will not be charged a change or cancellation fee due to a change in orders.
Free services offered for U.S. military veterans and spouses or dependents of U.S. active duty or reserve military, and National Guard:
Complimentary Baggage. The airline offers up to three pieces of checked baggage free. Each bag must weigh under 40 lbs.
Final Word
I did not expect Allegiant Airlines, as a low cost carrier, to provide this list of benefits to active military, reserve, National Guard, veterans, spouses, and dependents. The benefits offered are in line with those offered by the major airlines. Thanks Allegiant, this is very impressive.
More rich benefits from a low cost carrier Rob. Highly impressive. I have never flown domestic save a quick Florida layover heading to Costa Rica; some of these airlines seem new to me. I am a SE Asia airline pro though LOL.
I have known about them for a long time, but have never flown them. After seeing the benefits, I think it is time to give them a try.
