At this point in my Galveston experience, I was not impressed by the seafood offering in the city. I searched around for a bit and then came across Pho Tai. It looked very local and aged, to say the least, from the pictures on Google. I did not care about that, we were going.
Pho Tai was located on the east side of Galveston, much like every other restaurant. It was about a 15 minute drive from the Courtyard Marriott. There was parking on the street and on the side of the building. If you park on the street, please be careful because cars are zooming by without regard for anything. The owner’s home is above the restaurant so be prepared to hear children running around during your meal.
The restaurant is one big open room. There is not a hostess so you can sit anywhere that you choose.
I made the mistake of sitting in the middle of the restaurant next to a couple of rude women. They were condescending, borderline racist, to the staff so we moved to a different seating area in the restaurant. Menus were delivered and orders were taken at the first table.
The food was delivered 20 minutes after we ordered. It was definitely worth the wait. My cousin order a tofu stir fry, which is the healthiest thing that you will see on this site, while I went with the combination pho and spring rolls. The combination consisted of pork, beef, and tendon. I am not quite sure where the tendon originated but it all was delicious. The spring rolls were delicious as well.
Final Word
I do not care how aged Pho Tai looked, the place was cool and the food was good. Pho Tai reminded me of your typical local restaurant. It was no frills or gimmicks, just delicious food. If you are ever in Galveston, you HAVE to try Pho Tai.
