Marriott Bonvoy Launched Today!

In mid-January, I wrote about the launch of the new Marriott Rewards program, Bonvoy.  The new program would bring Marriott Rewards, Ritz-Carlton Rewards, and Starwood Preferred Guest into one program.  The name Bonvoy was chosen because, according to Marriott, it means “good travel”, which is the idea that guides everything that they do.

In all honesty, I forgot that the change was taking place today.  It was not until I opened the Marriott mobile app to search hotels for an upcoming trip and I needed to update it to Marriott Bonvoy.  There was no need to delete and reinstall the app, just a quick update.

The only other change that took place today was the a complete makeover of the Marriott website. The entire site has been branded as Bonvoy.

The next change will be the addition of a new hotel tier, category 8.  The new category will be official in March.  Category 8 hotels are bookable until March at the Category 7 rate, which could save up to 25,000 reward points.

Marriott now has 6,700 hotels across 29 brands in 130 countries.  The 29 brands are separated into four categories:  Luxury, Premium, Select, and Longer Stays.

Final Word
As a Marriott loyalist, it is exciting to see a new program.  The merger of Marriott, Ritz-Carlton, and Starwood Preferred Guest had a lot of people scratching their heads, me included.  The implementation of Bonvoy will calm our nerves, hopefully.
