Reluctantly, I left the lounge at 0815, which was boarding time for first class/suites passengers. Singapore Airlines does this so that premium cabin customers are not waiting a long time at the gate security checkpoint. The walk to the gate was about 12 minutes. There was not a wait as the economy and business class passengers began boarding at 0715.

As I made my way in the aircraft, I could not help but feel a bit giddy. I was happy as hell to be flying this aircraft in suites class. The walk to the plane was about two minutes. I was greeted on the jet bridge by an agent who pointed me to the suites class entrance.

As I walked down the jet bridge, I was greeted by four flight attendants (yup, four flight attendants). Three chatted me up (Marilyn, Ong, and Norazhar), while the fourth grabbed my bag.

He the escorted me to my seat, 3D, which is a couples suite. I almost did not book this seat because I wanted a two people to enjoy it, but I thought ‘what the hell’. The suite was gorgeous.

At the seat was a blanket, pillow, duvet, socks, slippers, and an eye mask.

I was provided a choice of champagne, Dom Perignon or Krug, I chose the latter. I was also offered reading material (newspaper or magazines). Marilyn introduced herself and provided me a menu (which she let me take as a souvenir). Norazhar brought the champagne, thanks.

She also gave me a tour of my suite. I was then provided a hot towel and more Krug. Let me say this, I felt rushed due to the boarding time. I wanted to get on the aircraft prior to everyone else for a quick tour, but the lounge agent explained to me the order of boarding which had me boarding last. I am used to premium class passengers boarding then everyone else. I managed to settle in after 15 minutes (there was so much to the suites class).

After settling in, I decided to check out the lavatory. It was located behind my seat. The lavatory was a decent size and had every toiletry that a passenger would need.

Boarding was nearly complete at this time. The pilot came on to give the welcome announcement. He informed us of our flight time of 5hr 40min. We began our pushback a few minutes behind schedule. At this point, the safety video was played.

The flight attendants came by to inform me that my bags (carry on and backpack) would need to be stored for takeoff and landing. I placed my carry on under the ottoman in my suite, but without overhead bins, my backpack had to ‘suffer’ under an ottoman in another suite.

After a 20 minute taxi, we finally began our takeoff roll. It felt like we used the entire runway. The climb out was bumpy. At this point, I logged onto the complimentary WiFi. Suites class passengers had 100MB of use, this was much better than the 30MB for my flight in business class.

Nine minutes after takeoff, drink service began. I ordered a water and more Krug. It was served with warm cashews.

Marilyn then came by for my food order. I asked for the fruit plate which was served 30 minutes after takeoff. The fruit was fresh and flavorful.

These accompanied my main dish, Boston Lobster Thermidor, that I preordered through Book the Cook. It was served minutes after I finished the fruit plate. The lobster and rice were perfect.

I requested the fresh fruit tart with peach sorbet for dessert.

After a lovely brunch, I took the opportunity to tour the aircraft. I started upstairs with business class and the mini economy class.

This took me to the rear of the aircraft where I used the spiral staircase to visit the larger economy and premium economy sections.

I asked for my beds (how crazy is that?!) to be made. I created a time lapse of the process while I waited.

At this point, we were three and a half hours from Beijing. I asked the flight attendant for water and requested that she wake me with two hours left. She happily obliged.

I was able to get some photo editing done during the last part of the flight. At this point, I tried to get onto the WiFi, only to find out that I had used the complimentary 100MB. I chatted with the flight attendants for the rest of the flight. Ong was the comedian of the crew, he kept me laughing.

45 minutes prior to landing the captain came on to announce that we would be preparing for descent into Beijing. At that point, service items were being collected. The crew waited until the last minute to complete service, which I appreciated. I was offered Singapore Airlines playing cards as another souvenir. All of the flight attendants were great.

The descent and landing were bumpy. We touched down at Beijing 11 minutes late. After the short taxi, we were only 17 minutes late.

Final Word

The flight exceeded my expectations. I would have never thought that I would be in a double bed suite at 35,000 feet. The four flight attendants were fun and provided me great. I thought that the Private Room was amazing, but it was topped by this flight. I cannot wait to fly Singapore Airlines again, it is quickly becoming my favorite airline.
