Redo: Karat Bar and Bistro – Wichita Falls

I visited Karat Bar and Bistro a few weeks ago for dinner. The meal left me unimpressed, but I wanted to give the food another try. Yesterday, I had the opportunity to visit for brunch. Upon entering, we were greeted by two friendly waiters. While the restaurant was busy, there was not a wait for seating. We were provided menus and drink orders were taken.

Brunch Menu

Much like the dinner menu, the selections were a little pricy. I am a firm believer that you get what pay for, but I feel that these prices are too high. The waiters quickly returned to take our food orders. We ordered egg benedicts (three ways), B.A.B. (Big Ass Biscuit), and chicken tenders.

During our wait for the food, the waiters regularly checked on our table. The food took about 15 minutes to come out. The egg benedicts consisted of three different toppings. They were the Karat Bistro Benny (smoked short ribs, bacon, and hot sauce on a brioche bun), the Old School Benny (house cured ham on a brioche bun), and the Hipster Benny (avocado, bacon, and tomato on sourdough toast). All three of the egg benedicts were simply ok.

The B.A.B. (Big Ass Biscuit) came with two eggs and bacon. The biscuit definitely lived up to its name. I could not finish it. The biscuit was soft and full of flavor, while the sausage gravy was a little bland.

Lastly, the chicken tenders were…chicken tenders. I tried to ask my two year old son for his opinion on the meal, but he kept stuffing fries into his mouth. It is safe to assume that he enjoyed the meal.

Final Word

This visit to Karat was definitely better than my last. The food was again a little bland. For the price of the dishes, I would think that the food would be better (maybe my taste buds are broken). I appreciate that downtown Wichita Falls is having a revitalization. Places like Karat and Half Pint Brewery are leading that charge. I am hopeful that the restaurant continues to improve.
