Why did I start a blog?

This is the question that I have been asked frequently over the past two weeks. In short, I started this blog to record my experiences and hopefully motivate other people to leave their comfort zone. Last July, I decided to start a Limited Liability Company with the intention of buying rental properties. Over the past 12 months, that was all that I had done…talk, talk, talk…no action. Until one day last month a coworker and I began to bounce ideas like we normally do. I made my usual statements:

I want to get out of the rat race.

I want to be my own boss.

I am tired of coloring inside of the lines.

I figured that this would be the tone of conversation for the length of the meeting, but I began to feel uncomfortable because he started to pressure me. When I say pressure, I mean good pressure, i.e. motivation. He asked:

What do you want from your company?

How do you plan to grow it?

Why aren’t you on social media?

Why don’t you have a blog?

In my mind, I searched for excuses, but there were not any. I am usually the motivated person but sometime during the past year, I lost my way. This was a chance for me to refocus my efforts. I spend a lot of my time taking care of others, but the time had come for me to be a little selfish. I was not allotting any time during the day for my personal growth…that has changed.

I feel that I am on a positive spiral and only plan for it to continue. There will be naysayers, which is expected, but I will continue to push towards my ultimate goal. I leave you with this…if you share ideas with your ‘friends’ and they responded with cynicism, then it is time to find new friends.
