Review: RoadRunner Auto Transport

I recently went halfsies to buy my younger brother a vehicle. As the older brother, I was tasked with all things regarding this vehicle. This was a lengthy process because there were numerous discussions had about cars, trucks, vans, and I believe there was a scooter thrown in for good measure.

After a months long process, I found a truck that was in great condition, with relatively decent miles and a clean title. Once I acquired the vehicle, I needed to get it to Mississippi. There were two options: 1) drive the truck to Mississippi and fly back, or 2) ship the truck via a vehicle transport. I chose the latter, it seemed like less of a hassle and it would save me time and money.

I Googled vehicle shipping from Texas to Mississippi and was inundated with a helluva list. There were so many options to choose from but I went straight for RoadRunner. I felt as if I knew the company or someone mentioned them…or maybe it was the total of $835 USD door to door.

I went through the website and scheduled the pickup for the next Friday. This would give them seven days to schedule a third party transport to come pick the truck up. I made a mistake with the vehicle info so I backed out of the quote. Before I could do anything else, some guy at RoadRunner was calling me to confirm the pickup. This was frustrating.

I eventually booked the shipment with my American Airlines AAdvantage card, for additional miles, of course, but was not initially charged. The confirmation email provided a link to track the shipment from start to finish. I thought this was a cool touch. I scheduled it for a Friday since I am normally off that day. So much for all that…

The Carrier Assignment section stayed pending until the day of pick up. This was until I got a call from RoadRunner saying the transport was delayed a day, the price would increase $100 USD, and my card would finally be charged. I had seen enough Shipping Wars episodes and read enough RoadRunner Reviews to know all of these things were likely. I had actually planned for a $200 USD increase so I was good with $100 USD.

Things started to go a little sideways at this point. There is no need to type this out, please look at the screenshots below:

I actually thought we had made some headway but was quickly disappointed again.

On the Monday, we could not make it work. I work regularly in the evenings so I took a half day on Monday to ensure the truck was picked up.

I followed up with this…

We kept going back and forth because not only was I taking unnecessary time off work, I felt like the person texting me was playing in my face. I was beyond pissed because I can accommodate any time but please be straight up with me.

Once the guy showed, he explained what happened. He had two other vehicles, one going to Alabama and the other to Georgia. The Georgia vehicle was the cause of the delay as it was not ready prior to the weekend.

Why couldn’t anyone say this to me before???

Final Word

The truck was safely delivered the next day and my brother is happy to have a “new to him” vehicle. Would I use RoadRunner again? Yes. However, I would give them more of a buffer to pick up the vehicle. I did not like the back and forth with the third party person. All in all, $935 USD to ship a truck from Texas to Mississippi was not that bad.

Have y’all ever used RoadRunner?
