We arrived from Houston a few minutes early and were parked at gate E3. I immediately turned right and followed the crowd towards baggage claim. Why? I guess because I am used to having a checked bag. Once I realized that I only have my backpack for this little and back, I backtracked to find the United Club.

Where is it located? A few steps away from gate E3.

There is a gray button (you can see it in the first picture), on the right side, you have to press for the sliding doors to open. The reception desk is located on the second level. Guests can either take the elevators or the stairs up.

The lovely lady working the counter welcomed me in. She asked how I was entering the lounge and wanted to see my boarding pass as well. As a United MileagePlus Explorer cardholder, I had two lounge passes. Even though I was entering the lounge more than three hours prior to my departure, she took care of me because it was basically empty.
There was a coffee bar, departures/arrivals board, and many of the same United Airlines magazines across from the reception desk.

The first thing you notice when entering the lounge is the immense seating area and the huge windows to plane spot.

The snack area was to the right. It included an assortment of pastries, candy, soups and some sandwiches. I was particularly fond of the vegan Southwest egg rolls and turkey sandwich.

Again, the lounge was quiet. I knew there had to be a bar but did not hear the normal crowd at an airport bar. The was located at the far end of the lounge…once you hit the back wall, it was on the left.

There was quite the selection of complimentary and premium drinks. The drink selections were wayyy better than the food.

Final Word
The United Club at PDX was exactly what I needed to break up the long day of travel. The restaurants in the terminals can be overstimulating at times so it was nice to sit in the quiet while snacking and having a couple of drinks.
