As someone who travels a lot, I am no stranger to receiving welcome emails from hotels when I have a confirmed reservation. In recent weeks, I have received those emails from the Costa Rica Marriott, Tampa Marriott, and Marriott Suites at Dallas Medical Center. On yesterday, I received following welcome email from the Hale Koa Hotel (military resort on Waikiki Beach):

Aloha,

Now that you are headed towards our shores…

E komo mai! (Welcome)

We have been waiting for your arrival! Let us show you all the wonderful and exciting things we have prepared for you!

– The Hale Koa Hotel Staff & Management

The email went on to list events such as a luau, comedy and magic shows, and brunch on Sundays. All of this is great, but I am not scheduled to visit the Hale Koa Hotel. I decided to save the email so that I could follow up with them today. The follow up was not needed because 17 hours after the original email, I received this from the hotel:

Dear Recent Recipient of a “Welcome to the Hale Koa Hotel” E-mail,

Auwe! (Hawaiian phrase when a mistake is made)

You may have just received an e-mail dated October, 30, 2018 thanking you for selecting the Hale Koa Hotel for an upcoming guest stay and providing information regarding our events and services.

If you are holding a future reservation, that’s terrific, as we look forward to welcoming you to the Hale Koa Hotel and that e-mail was meant for you.

However, if you are not holding a future reservation, kindly accept our sincere apologies for the inadvertent e-mail that was received and for the confusion. Regrettably, an incorrect e-mail listing was selected which resulted in many of you receiving the e-mail in error.

With kind regards,

Hale Koa Hotel Management

Final Word

I found it kind of funny that the hotel sent me this email because it acknowledges the need for me to travel back to Hawaii. While this was a mistake, thank you Hale Koa Hotel for the reminder.
