Review: The Westin – Dallas/Fort Worth Airport

I thoroughly enjoy visiting Dallas. If you have been following the blog for some time, you know this to be VERY true. I had an extended break for Independence Day weekend so I jumped at the chance to visit the metroplex.

We ate at Mr. Max Japanese Izakaya and Kura Revolving Sushi Bar, two of my favorite restaurants in the area. I have reviewed those places before so I will not as part of this trip. The focus of this review is The Westin at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.

Booking

I booked a King Room for $119 USD/night. This was among the cheapest in the area at the time. I was able to earn 9,679 Marriott Bonvoy points for the stay (5,786 base + 2,893 elite + 1,000 bonus points). I applied two nightly upgrade certificates to the reservation in hopes of being upgraded to a suite prior to arrival.

Arrival

The day prior to the stay I received email confirmation stating that I had been upgraded to a Corporate King Suite for the duration of the stay. 🫱🏻‍🫲🏿 This was greatly appreciated.

The hotel was just to the northeast of the airport. Parking was complimentary and the parking lot was nearly empty so I parked in the first row.

Check-In

Upon entering the hotel, I could not help but notice how quaint the property was. It was not dated but it was not recently updated. The property had a chill, kickback vibe. The elevators were straight ahead with the bar, restaurant, and Starbucks to the right.

While the front desk and the market were to the left.

There were two other guests ahead of me and two agents assisting them. Easy, right? Nope. One guy was trying to book six rooms and he wanted them connecting but did not want to put all of them on his card. As this unfolded, he revealed that they were at the property for an early flight so the connecting rooms and whatnot should not have been a big deal.

The other guest had already checked in but was having issues with the new staffer working the front desk. A person, who I assumed was a manager, was standing there helping her for a moment. The moment quickly left when I asked if she could man the third computer since the line was growing. She frowned and told me she was on break.

After waiting for about 20 minutes, I was finally helped. The interaction was significantly shorter than the previous two guests. I was welcomed to the property, given my room keys and breakfast vouchers all within minutes. Thanks???

Room

The suite was located on the 12th floor. After exiting the elevator area, I made a left and the room was at the end of the hall.

I screwed up the name of the property TWICE while recording the video.

The first thing I noticed about the suite was its linearity. Meaning, the space was very long. The sitting area, with a kitchenette, was just on the other side of the door. The couch was especially comfortable after a long day at the pool and bar.

There was a decent sized hallway separating the living from the sleeping area. This was where the bathroom and closet could be found.

The bed had great size and was really comfortable. I did not like the setup of the bed though. The blackout curtains did not do the job as the sun blasted through on both mornings so there was no sleeping in.

Fitness

The gym and pool were on the 15th and 1/2 floor. This was because I had to climb up two flights of stairs to access both.

Fitness Center

The room was the perfect size with a lot of equipment and huge windows that allowed the sunlight to shine through. I did not use it on the visit but if I did, I am sure I would have enjoyed it.

Pool

The pool was a highlight of the property. It was nearly on the roof and gave great views of planes landing at DFW Airport. There were multiple seating areas. The only issue was when American Airlines sent stranded passengers to the property. They all flocked to the pool, which made it super crowded (not pictured).

Dining

I will tell you this…I do not recall eating so much hotel food over a two day period. Byrn Restaurant and Bar probably had to DoorDash some groceries once I left. Let’s start with breakfast.

The dining area of the restaurant was just across from the bar. I sat right on the other side of the partition behind the hostess stand. The breakfast was complimentary so I went with Weston Complete which was a standard breakfast consisting of eggs, protein, and a bread. The bacon was so good that I had to order a “side”.

I checked out the bar during the evening on both nights. The bartender was a hella cool guy from Hawaii. We talked like we were friends from way back. I asked him for options on food and he gave me the standard answer…burger, wings, yadda yadda yadda, pretzel. Pretzel?! I ordered it immediately and it did not disappoint. It was the best pretzel I had ever eaten.

For good measure, I did get the burger and it was delicious as well. Maybe I was just being fat on that weekend or the food was just that good.

Final Word

The Westin at DFW Airport was a much needed reprieve on the extended weekend. The suite, pool, and food throughout the day made my visit. If you are thinking about staying near the airport on a layover or just to visit, do not hesitate to visit The Westin.
